Share
Step 1: Open Your Image
-
Open Adobe Photoshop.
-
Drag and drop or go to File > Open and select your raster image (PNG, JPG, etc.).
Step 2: Make a Selection of the Subject
You need to isolate the part of the image you want to convert:
Option A: Use the Magic Wand Tool (W)
-
Click on the background to remove it, or click the subject to select it.
-
Adjust tolerance if needed.
Option B: Use Select > Subject
-
Automatically selects the main subject (works best with high contrast).
Step 3: Refine the Edges (Optional but Recommended)
-
Go to Select > Modify > Expand/Contract to tweak the selection.
-
Then go to Select > Modify > Smooth for smoother curves.
Step 4: Convert Selection to a Path
-
With your selection active, go to Window > Paths.
-
In the Paths panel, click Make Work Path from Selection (the small button at the bottom).
-
Adjust the tolerance if prompted (1–2 px gives better accuracy).
-
-
This creates a vector path from your selection.
Step 5: Export as Vector
-
Go to File > Export > Paths to Illustrator.
-
Save as
.AI
file. -
Now open it in Adobe Illustrator for full vector editing.
🔁 Optional: Fill and Color the Vector in Photoshop
-
Once you have the path, you can use the Pen Tool (P) to edit it.
-
Right-click the path > Fill Path or Stroke Path to apply effects.
⚠️ Limitations
